| Gary Passingham took home the street class winners trophy at the Japshow Santa Pod 22nd June, last weekend with GTaRt Customer Dave Greenhalgh taking the runner's up trophy after an all GTaRt final. With another GTaRt customer Malcolm Thomas also running a new personal best on the day against a well known Supra. Gary's haul of trophies is getting bigger by the week as the HKS trophy is added to the two street class winner's trophies from the Pro-Street challenge at Shakespeare County raceway. The GTaRt R33 is consistently and reliably producing mid to late 9 second quarters with terminal speeds just under 150mph and now features a full drag spec cage for safety, yet it remains a perfectly streetable MOT'd road car which must be only one of a handful of 9 second fully legal full weight cars in the country. A testament to the GTaRt enginering and development skills. | |||

| Well, after deciding to bring "the beast" out this year it looks like we've made a good decision. After winning the 2005 santapod JAPSHOW final with my Skyline R33 GTR road car, which we nicknamed "the beast" we put her to one side . I then put my drag racing efforts into Project GTST. In 2006 in FULL GTS TRIM with Brent driving, the car achieved a 9.93 second 1/4 @140.57mph . This was with a stick shift "H" pattern std gearbox. The GTST continued to be developed and with our engine and prototype dry sump etc.. culminated last year with the car's fastest pass to date last year of 8.53 sec 161.3 mph and the enjoyable completion of our work on this project We enjoyed the ride all the way on thisproject but of course we didn't want to stop what we enjoy best so I made the decision to race my R33GTR road car again. With a few new parts such as a reliable gear box type R 28/35 hks turbos a bit of tweaking here and there, some valuable track time at the pod and my GT-ART developed FastRoad/DRAG Suspension system (which works a treat) we spent a few days checking the car and modifiying as best we could to the RULE BOOK set down by Santa Pod Raceway in conjunction with the MSA and NHRA sport compact regs. With a few items left to install such as gearbox sheild and roll cage to fully comply to the regs we were ready to test but still heavy. The results in testing were well - "pretty damm good" getting to know the car again was like riding a bike,on Friday 18 April using some data collected the week before when we carried out 18 trouble free passes, we put in a total of 9 passes and ended with a personal best of 9.63 @ 142.76 mph. Into the ('s for the first time - hurray. With that result in the bag and a congratulations from Andy Barnes for beating the time he set a few years earlier with his GTR34, (engine developed by GTaRt) I and my team set off to race at AVON PARK raceway for the new Pro Street Drag Challenge set up by Keith Cowie and Mick Begley and co. So after a night at the Premier inn, we got down to the track in poor weather conditions on the Saturday and so didn't get a run in. We decided to call it a day and went in search of a better hotel that served some good food and a much needed and a good nights rest. At the track on Sunday morning we signed on officially and met a few of the challenge competitors while we waited for the track to dry as best it could and managed to get in two runs. This netted us a first place for the 10.3-9.3 street car class that was my class, plus the best time and speed for the day before the weather closed in. So good results a couple more trophies for the cabinet and a solid 10 points in the bag in the Pro-Street Series - Job done! The car stayed in perfect health and is now ready for the next meeting - The first round of the HKS Challenge at the Santa Pod PTM show and the next round of the Pro-Street challenge. I want to emphasise the fact that we are racing as a fully legal taxed and tested Steet car not a PRO Dragcar. I really want to thank everyone who has shown sincere support and it's good to be back on track in our own car. Regards Gary |
